Transits & The Program

How to Read the Rave New Year Chart Every January

The Sun enters Gate 41 every January and starts a new global conditioning pattern. Here's the actual mechanic behind the Rave New Year, and how to read what it means for you without losing your strategy.

Every year, right around January 21st, the Sun moves into Gate 41 and a new Rave New Year begins. You’ll see people online treating this like a horoscope, a forecast to brace for or hope for. It isn’t that. It’s a mechanic, and once you understand how it works you can read it for yourself every single year, no matter what the specific planets happen to be doing.

I’m not going to give you a deep annual forecast here. Analysts who specialize in transit work do that far better than I could in one sitting. What I want to hand you instead is the crash course: what actually happens at the Rave New Year, how to look at it in your own chart, and how to keep your strategy and authority in the driver’s seat while the collective weather changes around you.

What actually happens at the Rave New Year

Gate 41 is the first gate of the wheel, the start codon of our genetic code. When the Sun enters it, usually the 21st or 22nd of January, that moment gets cast as a chart of its own: the Rave New Year chart. Every planet’s position at that exact moment forms what we call the global conditioning pattern, the background frequency (the neutrino feed) that the entire collective receives for the year ahead.

This is a transit chart, not a natal chart. It shows what channels and centers get temporarily colored in across humanity as a whole, the way weather moves through a landscape without becoming the landscape itself. It changes every year because the planets keep moving. What doesn’t change is the mechanic: something is always defined in that Rave New Year chart, and it always describes a theme the collective will be pressured toward, not a fixed identity anyone actually has.

How to read it for your own chart

The single most useful thing you can do with any transit, the Rave New Year included, is overlay it on your own natal design. Pull up your chart with the Rave New Year chart running alongside it and look at two things: which centers that are normally open or undefined in your design suddenly show color, and which full channels complete themselves only because of the incoming transit.

That coloring is real in the sense that you’ll feel it, but it isn’t true definition. True definition only comes from your own natal channels. What the transit lights up is closer to a visiting frequency: for that stretch of time you’ll have access to an energy, or a pressure, that isn’t actually you. The people who show up carrying the inner planets, the Moon, and the nodes during that window are often literal people who enter your life and mirror the theme back to you. The outer planets, Pluto, Neptune, Uranus, Saturn, move slower and tend to describe a longer developmental arc rather than a person.

Type and strategy still filter the experience

Not everyone receives a transit the same way. If you’re a Projector or a Generator, the people in front of you generally have more influence over your experience of the year than the transit chart does, because your aura is designed to focus on and absorb whoever’s directly with you. If you’re a Manifestor or a Reflector, your aura is less filtered by the people around you and more directly in contact with the program itself, which is part of why Ra originally chose a Reflector and a Generator to be the primary Rave New Year teachers.

Either way, the transit doesn’t change your type, your strategy, or your authority. What it can do is make certain themes louder for a season. Experimenting with your strategy and authority through that noise, rather than trying to reason your way to the “right” response with your mind, is what keeps you from being pulled off course by a chart that was never describing your identity to begin with.

The 2025 chart as a worked example

This year’s Rave New Year completed a channel connected to progress, impatience, and change, the kind of transit that makes an entire collective feel like it needs to move now. Paired with that was a strong pull toward crisis and disruption in the background pattern, which tracks with how unsettled the news cycle has felt. None of that is a prediction about any one person’s year. It’s a description of the pressure everyone is swimming in.

I also looked at where Pluto sat this year, still working its way through Gate 41 on its approach to the 41.5 threshold, the marker Ra associated with the start of a new era as we move closer to 2027. That’s a slow, generational transit, not something that resolves in twelve months. When I overlaid my own natal chart with this year’s transit, I could see my own open Heart center and Sacral getting colored in around themes of proving myself and supporting the people around me financially, which told me exactly where to expect pressure and exactly where to keep coming back to my own authority instead of the transit’s momentum.

Your solar return is not the Rave New Year

One thing worth being precise about: the Rave New Year is a collective chart, and your own solar return (sometimes called a Rave return), the moment each year the Sun comes back to the exact degree it held at your birth, is personal to you and arguably more important for your own decision making. Ra considered the solar return one of the most valuable annual readings available, because it shows what’s conditioning you specifically rather than the whole collective.

There’s also a stretch of discomfort worth knowing about: the days between your Design date (roughly 88 to 89 degrees of solar movement before you were born) and your actual birthday tend to be stressful, because you’re closing out one solar cycle while the next one is already arriving. It’s not the moment to make big irreversible decisions if you can avoid it. Push the major moves to the other side of your birthday when you can.

The takeaway

The Rave New Year is an annual snapshot of the pressure the collective is under, and the work is to notice what it’s lighting up in you that isn’t actually yours, and let your strategy and authority carry you through it the way they’re built to.
