How to choose a qualified Human Design teacher or certification
A qualified Human Design teacher can name their training lineage, teach the original mechanical system (not only a rebrand), keep Strategy and Authority central, and hold clear standards for practice. A credible certification has prerequisites, curriculum depth, practicum or assessment, and honest scope for what graduates may offer. Popularity, aesthetics, and follower count are not qualifications.
Criteria informed by authentic lineage education at ICONIC Human Design Education under Dr. LaVeena B. Archers, Education Director of Jovian Archive and IHDS Certified Independent Teacher. Compare programs fairly; use this checklist anywhere.
Before you enroll: know your own chart, then evaluate teachers against mechanics and lineage, not marketing.
Why teacher and certification criteria matter
Human Design education is unregulated in most places. Anyone can post a chart aesthetic and sell a certificate. Students then confuse Type labels with a decision process, or offer client work without mechanical depth. Clear criteria protect your time, money, and the people you may later guide.
If you need the difference between lineage and pop teaching first, read Authentic Human Design vs pop Human Design. For system basics, use the Start Here guide. For the practice a real curriculum has to be built around, read the deconditioning experiment.
Lineage and training checklist
Ask for plain answers. Write them down.
- Which system is taught? Original Ra Uru Hu Human Design, or a renamed / hybrid brand?
- Who trained and certified the teacher? Names and institutions, not only “I studied online.”
- What is their relationship to Jovian Archive / IHDS-lineage education? Clear, modest, specific answers beat vague mystique.
- How long have they taught, and what have they trained others to do? Years alone are not enough; outcomes and standards matter.
- Do they distinguish authentic mechanics from pop content? Teachers who cannot (or will not) draw that line often blur it in the curriculum.
Mechanics checklist (non-negotiables)
- Type, Strategy, and Authority are taught as practice, not only labels
- Design calculation is explained (Personality and Design; birth time care)
- Defined and open centers are used for conditioning literacy, not pathologizing
- Experiment language is honest: try it; do not merely believe it
- No guaranteed destiny sales dressed as science
Cross-check any teacher against free mechanical education: types, authorities, centers, full library.
Program and certification checklist
| Ask | Healthy answer looks like |
|---|---|
| Prerequisites | Clear foundations required or bundled; not “anyone with a card can certify this weekend.” |
| Curriculum | Documented modules: Living Your Design, mechanics, practicum, not only vibes and PDFs. |
| Live support | Mentoring, study practice, recorded archives; not only pre-recorded dumps. |
| Assessment | Competency demonstrated; feedback given; not automatic certificate on payment. |
| Scope after graduation | Honest about Guide vs Analyst vs reading skills; no inflated titles. |
| Pricing | Full price and plan language visible; enrollment call clarifies fit, not the number alone. |
Red flags
- Teacher cannot describe their training lineage without hostility or fog
- Certificate issued primarily for payment or attendance hours only
- Claims that lineage does not matter while still using Human Design trademark language for authority
- Guarantees of income, enlightenment, or medical outcomes
- Pressure to buy immediately without prerequisites discussion
- Contempt for Strategy and Authority as “old school” without a coherent replacement mechanic
Questions to ask before you pay
- What system exactly am I learning, and who holds the source rights historically?
- Who certified you, and what does that certificate authorize you to teach?
- How do you teach Strategy and Authority in the first month?
- What must I demonstrate before you call me a Guide or Analyst?
- What is included for live mentoring and recordings?
- What is the full price, what financing exists, and what is not included?
- What should I refuse to offer clients after this program until I train further?
How to verify what you are told
Everything above this point is about asking. This part is about checking, and it is the step almost nobody takes. Human Design is unregulated, so verification is not done for you by a licensing board: if you do not do it, it does not happen.
- Get the credential and the year in writing. Ask which school issued it and when. A teacher trained in the lineage can answer in one sentence. If a school publishes its own listing of certified professionals, check the name against it.
- Confirm the credential matches what is being sold. A Living Your Design Guide is certified to introduce people to their own design and hold the foundational experiment. An Analyst is trained to read any chart professionally. Someone offering full chart synthesis on a guide-level credential is working outside their training.
- Ask what they are not certified to do. The single most reliable question on this page. A teacher with real training has a defined scope and will name its edges without getting defensive. Someone who claims no limits has not been assessed against any.
- Check that prices are published before you are on a call. Pricing that only appears after a discovery call is a sales structure, not an education structure.
- Test one mechanical question against your own chart. Ask what your Authority is and how it is supposed to work for you specifically. A qualified teacher answers mechanically and consistently. A pop source will answer with your type description, or with something about trusting your intuition.
- Ask how deconditioning is taught. If the curriculum has no answer, you are being sold chart interpretation rather than the system. See the deconditioning experiment for what a real answer covers.
One honest caveat: verification tells you whether someone is qualified, not whether they are right for you. A properly credentialled teacher you cannot learn from is still the wrong teacher. Check the credentials first, then trust your Authority on the fit.
