The Questions I Get Asked Most About Human Design

From what alignment actually feels like by type to how the spleen carries intuition, here are honest answers to the questions that come up again and again.

After more than a decade of teaching this system, I keep hearing the same handful of questions. Not because people aren’t paying attention, but because these are the real questions: is this a cult, how do I know if I’m doing this right, why does my chart feel wrong to me, and what does my body actually intuit versus what my mind makes up about it. I want to answer a batch of them here, the way I’d answer them in a live room, minus the noise.

How Do I Know If I’m Actually Living My Design?

This is the one I hear more than any other. People want a checklist, and the honest answer is simpler and harder than a checklist: you are your own authority. That’s not a slogan, it’s the whole practice. What I can give you are the signposts, because each type has a different feeling that tells you whether you’re on track or off it.

A generator or manifesting generator is looking for satisfaction, satisfied with who they are for themselves first, and with others second. A projector is looking for success, not achievement for its own sake but the felt sense of being recognized and used well. A manifestor is looking for peace, the absence of the resistance that comes from acting without informing first. A reflector is looking for surprise, the delight of what life brings when they’ve given a full lunar cycle to a decision.

The flip side matters just as much. Bitterness for a projector, anger for a manifestor, frustration for a generator, and disappointment for a reflector are not feelings to push through. They’re the bumps on the side of the road telling you that you’ve drifted off your own strategy and authority.

Does a Manifesting Generator Really Need to Inform?

Yes, and this is one of the most common mechanics people get muddled on. A manifesting generator has sacral response connected through to the throat, which means their action doesn’t stop at responding. It moves into manifestation. Informing isn’t a courtesy tacked onto the end of the process, it’s built into the design itself. Waiting for the response is still step one. But once you’ve responded and, if you have a defined emotional system, waited through your wave for clarity, telling the people around you what you’re doing before you do it is part of how that energy is meant to move. Skipping it doesn’t make you faster, it just makes the people in your aura resistant to what you’re already doing.

Where Does Intuition Actually Come From?

People love to ask who’s “more intuitive,” as though it’s a competition, and I want to gently push back on that framing every time. There’s no comparative measure between one person’s design and another’s. What I can tell you is where the mechanical stream of intuition runs. It starts at the root, at the pressure to take the risks that matter, moves through the spleen as that quiet, in the moment awareness some people describe as a whisper in the right ear, and can express outward through the throat as present tense contemplation. If you have consistent definition along that stream, that awareness is wired in from birth. If it’s open, you’re not without intuition. You’re here to learn about many different kinds of it over a lifetime, and often to become wise about it for other people, not just yourself.

Why Don’t I Like Something in My Own Chart?

Almost everyone has this reaction to their own design at some point, myself included. You look at a gate, a lot of undefined space, or a planetary placement and think, that’s what’s wrong with me. It isn’t wrong. My honest advice is to stop trying to make any single piece of the chart “positive” and instead experiment with loving yourself unconditionally regardless of what you think about any one gate or center. The chart is a mechanical description, not a verdict, and the discomfort with it usually fades as you spend real time living your strategy and authority rather than analyzing the paper.

Will This Relationship Work Long Term?

I get variations of this question constantly, usually phrased in terms of two types, like whether a projector and a generator can make it work. The honest answer is that any combination of types can work. The real question underneath is whether you, specifically, are experimenting with your own strategy and authority in that relationship, and whether you’ve actually looked at the individual charts involved rather than the type labels. If you’re carrying real doubt, that’s worth sitting with rather than resolving with a general rule, because two people’s charts are never as generic as “generator and projector.”

These questions all trace back to the same root: your body already knows, your mind is just louder. If you want to see how your own chart answers them, you can get your free chart and start reading your own type and strategy and authority directly, or read more on why this practice isn’t a cult if that question has ever crossed your mind too.
